The GRE® (Graduate Record Examination) is a computer based test that is a pre-requisite for admission into different Master's and Doctoral programs in the U.S. It is a competitive examination that requires extensive preparation.
General Overview: The GRE® test lasts for 3 hours and 45 mins and tests verbal, quantitative and analytical writing abilities. The verbal and quantitative reasoning score will be reported on a 130-170 score scale and the analytical writing is graded on a holistic scale of 6. Test scores are valid for 5 years. Different schools have different GRE score requirements. Your scores better your chances of getting admission into a particular U.S. university.
The GRE® can be attempted once every sixty days and only upto five times in one calendar year. Registration for the GRE® requires a valid passport and can be done on www.ets.org. Registration requires candidate to pay a US $175.00 exam fee.
GRE Exam training includes
Verbal:
- Two 30 minute sections with 20 questions in each section.
- Verbal section measures your ability to analyze and evaluate written material, synthesize information obtained from it, analyze relationships among component parts of sentences and recognize relationships between words and concepts.
- Contains three types of questions: reading comprehension, text completion and sentence equivalence.
Quantitative:
- Two 35-minute sections with 20 questions in each section.
- Measures your understanding of elementary mathematical concepts, ability to reason quantitatively and ability to solve problems in a quantitative setting.
- Includes arithmetic, algebra, geometry and data analysis that are usually learned in high school.
Analytical Writing:
- Two 30 minute sections within the Analytical Writing assessment.
- Frist section is a 30-minute "Present Your Perspective on an Issue" task that states an opinion on an issue of general interest and asks test takers to address the issue from any perspective they wish, as long as they provide relevant reasons and examples to explain and support their views.
- Second section is a 30-minute "Analyze an Argument" task that requires test takers to critique an argument by discussing how well reasoned they find it.
- Individuals taking the computer-based test will use a basic word processor developed by ETS which allows basic functions: insert text, delete text, cut-and-paste and undo the previous action.
The LeoThundra GRE® program is designed to help the student crack the test. It involves class lectures on core concepts taught by faculty who specialize in coaching for standardized tests. The coaching is carried out in small groups of about 5-8 students to maximize attention given to each student. Apart from lectures, all possible study material is provided in an organized manner to students for practice and review. Student is administered 15 full length tests before test date to experience fatigue and get realistic experience.
